In The Pursuit of Higher Education with Asheli Atkins

January 9, 2017 by Ngome

Asheli S. Atkins has always had a passion for assisting African Americans in moving out of and, at times, from under social circumstances. In preparation to be a vehicle for change she is in pursuit of her PhD in Sociology at Texas A&M University,
where she is researching the socially perceived legitimacy of African American entrepreneurs. Additionally, Asheli works with the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce, where she assists in Marketing & Membership. Asheli received her Master’s in Business Administration from Texas Woman’s University and a Bachelor’s degree from Prairie View A&M University.

In this episode we discuss:

  • Asheli’s education journey from undergrad, MBA, and PhD program.
  • Her decision making process for graduate school.
  • The differences between an HBCU and PWI.
  • Her work within the African American entrepreneurs and how to support black businesses.
