I have had great success with professional organizations from being a member to serving on the board. This week is International Networking Week led by BNI, the largest business referral organization. I am not a member of BNI. I have attended an event and believe the organizations is extremely beneficial if you can find the right fit. From my experience these are the three reasons why you should join a professional organization.
- Surrounded by like-minded people allows for a wealth of knowledge from the typical “pick my brain,” current on industry trends through professional development from conferences, workshops, seminars, and continuing education classes. You know that person smarter in the room…well they just may be your next mentor or business partner.
- Career Opportunities this is highly important if you are in a specific transition in your life. Whether it is unemployment or upward mobility knowing the right people goes a long way.
- Leadership Roles increases visibility. You become the go to person or the representative of the organization. My leadership roles allowed me my first speaking opportunities and eventually launching my business.
